WESTCRAFT HISTORY (1933-1955)
The Westcraft brand emerged in 1932 under the auspices of the George T. Hall Company, headquartered in Los Angeles, California. Originally established by George Hall and his mother, the company initially operated as a modest distributor of trailers, butane, and heaters in West Los Angeles. However, it swiftly ascended to become a prominent distributor of trailers across Southern California.
The onset of World War II necessitated a shift in focus for the George T. Hall Company, leading to a hiatus in trailer production as resources were redirected towards defense programs. Nevertheless, in 1946, following the conclusion of the war, the Westcraft brand experienced a revival under the Westcraft Manufacturing Company in Burbank, California.
During this post-war era, Westcraft introduced a range of models, produced alongside the more budget-friendly Westwood line. Renowned for their quality craftsmanship, Westcraft trailers incorporated advanced construction techniques inspired by aircraft manufacturing, including aluminum framing ribs and heavy-gauge aluminum skin. This attention to detail ensured durability and longevity, with Westcraft trailers rarely experiencing leaks even after years of use.
The distinctive styling of Westcraft trailers featured a "bread loaf" design complemented by a clerestory, or Pullman, roof. This roof design not only added to the aesthetic appeal but also provided increased interior headroom and cross ventilation, enhancing comfort for occupants. Each model bore the name of popular California destinations, evoking the spirit of travel and adventure.
Among the notable models produced by Westcraft were the Coronado, Montecito, Shasta, Sequoia, and Yosemite. Each model offered unique features and amenities, catering to travelers' diverse range of preferences.
Following the success of their initial lineup, Westcraft continued to innovate and refine their trailers, incorporating improvements in design and functionality. Despite changes in consumer preferences and industry trends, Westcraft maintained its reputation for excellence and remained a sought-after brand among enthusiasts of vintage trailers.
In recent years, the legacy of Westcraft has been upheld by Timeless Travel Trailers, under the direction of Brett Hall, who has reintroduced the iconic Westcraft models to a new generation of travelers.
